INSPIRATION
Looking through a landscape, and specifically trees in the Clent Hills in Worcester, gave rise to a series of photos, used to capture the depth of my view and the interplay between branches of the huge beech trees along my path.
In the studio, these images inspired a set of detailed drawings which became more and more abstract as I drew again and again.
From some of the final sketches I made, this abstract work was developed. Made from hard plasteline, it required the clay to be heated in a slow cooker to soften it for forming. The view, as one looks through the bronze, shows banks of soil and roots, giving rise to the curves of lined-up trunks and higher - their branches reaching skyward.
